We all use t-shirts on a regular basis and buy them more often than any other apparel. SelflessTee is a startup selling t-shirts that do more than look great — they change lives. When you buy from SelflessTee you not only get a hip looking wear but through your purchase of that t-shirt you also support an important cause. The dollars from your purchase go towards supporting the work of the charity behind the cause.
SelflessTee is a Pepsi Refresh funded startup whose goal is to be a leading apparel company, creating continuous social impact.
As co-founder Josh Furnas put it, “Our goal is to raise money and awareness for causes and we do it through designer apparel. We turn the cause into something visually appealing on a T-shirt which people would love to own”
How They Do It?
SelflessTee sells limited edition t-shirts on their website (selflesstee.com), representing the cause that they’ve picked for that period which is generally two weeks. So keep coming back to see if the cause you endorse has a t-shirt designed around it or you may just be moved by the great looking t-shirt into buying irrespective of the cause. However, SelflessTee goal is to really bring the stories out and to educate its consumers on the cause and the work of the nonprofit.
It is a really important part of our work that we make the human connection between nonprofit and potential consumer, that the consumers know the story behind the t-shirt they buy – Danny Bocanegra, Co-Founder
When you go onto their site, alongside the display of the t-shirt, you’ll also find information on how the funds will be used and a video of the nonprofit’s work.
In order to come up with a killer t-shirt, that make a statement, SelflessTee sources graphic designers, who are motivated to make a difference and nonprofits who are looking for funds for their projects. They then pair the two (one designer, with one nonprofit) to come up with beautiful creation. If you are a graphic designer, looking for fame, money and most importantly to create change, you can apply here. Nonprofits looking to raise funds for projects, learn about the criteria here. As for the people looking to buy t-shirts online, this is what the founders of SelflessTee has to say to you, “It’s about doing something, intrinsically having your purchase tied to something great and substantial. An attractive tee can have profound meaning and still be really really cool”
Would you be more likely to buy a cause inspired t-shirt than a regular one? Let us know in the comments.
